This makes them better for a wider range of hearing impairment than the acoustic tube models, which work best with high frequency hearing impairment.
Open ear hearing helps are available with directional microphones, which allow those wearers in nosy environments to indicate them immediately at a speaker for better sound clarity. Their largest drawback is that they are automated, and don’t have any adjustable volume control.
